The Doll and a White Rose
I hurried into the local department store to grab
some last minute
Christmas gifts. I looked at all the people and
grumbled to myself. I
would be in here forever and I just had so much to
do. Christmas was
beginning to become such a drag. I kinda wished
that I could just
sleep
through Christmas. But I hurried the best I could
through all the
people
to the toy department.
Once again I kind of mumbled to myself at the
prices of all these toys.
And wondered if the grandkids would even play with
them. I found myself
in the doll aisle. Out of the corner of my eye I
saw a little boy about
5 holding a lovely doll. He kept touching her hair
and he held her so
gently. I could not seem to help myself. I just
kept looking over at
the
little boy and wondered who the doll was for.
I watched him turn to a woman and he called his
aunt by name and said,
"Are you sure I don't have enough money" She
replied a bit impatiently,
"You know that you don't have enough money for it.
The aunt told the
little boy not to go anywhere that she had to go
get some other things
and would be back in a few minutes. And then she
left the aisle. The
boy continued to hold the doll.

After a bit I asked the boy who the doll was for.
He said, "It is the
doll my sister wanted so badly for Christmas. She
just knew that Santa
would bring it." I told him that maybe Santa was
going to bring it. He
said "No, Santa
can't go where my sister is...I have to give the
doll to my Mamma to
take to her." I asked him where his sister was.
He looked at me with
the saddest
eyes and said "She was gone to be with Jesus." My
Daddy says that Mama
is
going to have to go be with her.
My heart nearly stopped beating. Then the boy
looked at me again and
said, "I told my Daddy to tell Mama not to go yet.
I told him to tell
her to wait till I got back from the store." Then
he asked me if I
wanted to see his picture. I told him I would love
to. He pulled out
some pictures he'd had taken at the front of the
store. He said "I want
my Mamma to take this with her so she don't ever
forget me." "I love my
Mama so very much and I wish she did not have to
leave me." "But Daddy
says she will need to be
with my sister."
I saw that the little boy had lowered his head and
had grown so very
quiet. While he was not looking I reached into my
purse and pulled out
a
handful of bills. I asked the little boy, "Shall
we count that money
one
more time?" He grew excited and said "Yes, I just
know it has to be
enough". So I slipped my money in with his and we
began to count it.
Of
course it was plenty for the doll.
He softly said, "Thank you Jesus for giving me
enough money." Then the
boy said "I just asked Jesus to give me enough
money to buy this doll
so
Mama can take it with her to give to my sister."
"And he heard my
prayer. "I wanted to ask him for enough to buy my
Mama a white rose,
but
I didn't ask him, but he gave me enough to buy the
doll and a rose for
my Mama." "She loves white roses so very, very
much."
In a few minutes the aunt came back and I wheeled
my cart away. I could
not keep from thinking about the little boy as I
finished my shopping
in
a totally different spirit than when I had
started. And I kept
remembering a story I had seen in the newspaper
several days earlier
about a drunk driver hitting a car and killing a
little girl and the
Mother was in serious
condition. The family was deciding on whether to
remove the life
support.
Now surely this little boy did not belong with
that story.
Two days later I read in the paper where the
family had disconnected
the
life support and the young woman had died. I could
not forget the
little
boy and just kept wondering if the two were
somehow connected. Later
that day, I could not help myself and I went out
and bought some white
roses and took them to the funeral home where the
young woman was. And
there she was holding a lovely white rose, the
beautiful doll, and the
picture of the little boy in the store. I left
there in tears, my life
changed forever.
The love that little boy had for his little sister
and his mother was
overwhelming. And in a split second a drunk
driver had ripped the life
of that little boy to pieces.

Poetry

Here I've put together a collection of poetry. Some of them are by me, and some are written by others. I hope you enjoy them! Come here often, I'm always adding more..

Without You

I sit on the porch so silent and still
The view from out back was all your will
Your clothes in the closet I will never throw away
They'd all be too small if you came back someday
My wishful thinking has really gotten to me
If you ever came back my thoughts would be free
The children I wanted are all in my head
I still sleep at night on my side of the bed
The house seems so perfect, everything to new
But everything here turns to nothing without you
--J. Wiebe

That Day

The early mornings with their chirping birds
The african fields with their wild herds
These things represent the life of the free
Sweet and promising as the life you gave me
Each day I wake up and see your face
You remind me of the day I first came to this place
Your hand so soft and gentle as the breeze
Caring for me comes to you with such ease
Like a mother's child I'll run to you
No other can make me feel like you do
I'll never go back to the life I had before
Since I met you I've been through a new door
Life became like springtime in May
I know in my heart I'll remember that day
--J. Wiebe

Living A Lie

The streets with their ------ was your only life
No reason and no desire to choose a wife
Your happiness lives in a clear plastic bag
The clothes on your back would make anyone gag
You watch the women that work on your street
Beg for the money to find something to eat
The drugs in your pocket you hope the cops never find
They make you so happy by clearing your mind
Your home a newspaper thrown over you for night
Move to the next corner when you smell a fight
Your happiest day will be the day you die
No more living a drug, no more living a lie
--J. Wiebe

Sword In Hand

My heart goes out to thee my lord
The one who holds the mighty sword
In the dark of night you need not rest
Put thy strength and power to the test
The enemy fights to no avail
This knight knows not the weak and frail
You fight for life but not your own
But for the man who seeks the throne
May peace be honored through the land
Fight on, my love... Sword in hand
--J. Wiebe

Gone

Your skin so soft
Your fingers so small
When you got older
Would you have been tall?

No words from your mouth
Just a smile on your face
Your movement so slow
Growing at a very slow pace

Much smaller than most
Too small for your age
Time moving too quickly
For life turning the page

Lying there quietly
On that hospital bed
The only movement now
Is the tossing of your head

The doctors rush in
Quickly turning machines on
The nurses come out
And say "we're sorry, but he's gone"
--J. Wiebe

How?

The soldiers they run through the fields they save
Yet the blood, the mercy, and the victims they crave
The blood of others to sweet as it falls to the ground
The screams from their mouths turn to pleads of no sound
As the guns go off, the mercy is so great
The bullets of lead make such a twist of fate
Your man spins slowly and falls to the floor
Your mercy and victims can free you no more
His blood is bitter, not sweet like the rest
Killing is no longer what you want to do best
The war was your life at least until now
Still waiting for an answer to your question... how?
--J. Wiebe

I Remember

I remember the shot
I remember the blood
I remember the man
I remember you run
I remember how I was stunned
I remember him cry
I remember he didn't want to die
I remember his body sink to my feet
I remember then all taking him away
I remember you go to the slammer
You'll have to live with this forever
--A. Irwin

Past Love

My love was gone, long shattered and torched
My dreams of the future are now so scorched
I wish I had known so much as to know
To think before I loved you so
But I didn't know so now I'll pay
I was always hoping it wouldn't end this way
Do I mean it? No, so send me to ----
I wish to stay here on earth with you
I loved you so well and I hope you did too
--J. Wiebe

Is It Worth It

First you start to wither away
Then it becomes more like play
You fight until you can't fight anymore
Then one goes out and slams the door
One lays down and cries all night
And tries to think what started the fight
When you decide to give up hope
Your life then takes a downward slope
You go to the kitchen and find a knife
And soon decide to end your life
Do you really want to kill yourself
You put the knife back on your shelf
Then you pick it up again
And do it quick so it all will end
--J. Wiebe

Picture Perfect

When does the day start,
Sense we had to part,
I have to go away from you and my home,
But as I stand alone I only think of you and think if you were only my own,

You stand out in my mind,
So you are never hard to find,
When in a bind you are always a help
So you bring me good health,
As you stay with her and you break my heart,
As I see that you never loved me from the start
